Fleet Marine Life #154 – Peep Show
In California, we used to live in a motel-style barracks where if you walked outside of your room, you’d be outside.
One Thursday, and I remember it was Thursday because everyone was cleaning, I went to the room of a female Marine and her roommate was crying. I asked why her roommate was crying and she said, “A Male Sergeant banged on the door last night asking her if she wanted to hang out and she said no. The Sergeant started banging on the door non-stop and said all sorts of terrible things.” Of course, he was drunk as fuck, because what idiot would do this at 2 o’ clock in the morning?
I noticed that they have their curtains closed and duct taped at the edge. I asked why this was so and she replied, “It’s because male Marines try to look into our room.” That’s fucking creepy.
Trying to catch a peek since 1775.
One of my daughters was talking about joining the military. I’ve told her that after HS, it’s a year of AmeriCorps, then college, and that she should go in as an officer if she wants to serve her country. My wife and I were both enlisted.
She said, ‘what if I want to be enlisted?’ I explained that she’ll be a 23, 24, and 25-yo college-educated woman who, every Thursday, will have a 19, 20 and 21-yo guy checking to see if she made her bed to his liking.
I then explained that everyone will be her boss, and no one in her peer group will be very relatable or enjoyable to be around, but if she’s a Lt. she’ll be the boss of most people, and will likely have some comradeship with the other female officers (as opposed to the idiocy I saw of enlisted women trying to vie for more attention than the others).
It’s inevitable that 1 of my 4 daughters will join up. I’m just so glad it’s in the future, and not in the fucking dark ages of 2010, a year when 2 soldiers raped a woman in Iraq, and when she brought the charges to her CO, she was told to be patient with the investigation, which included her still working side-by-side with them instead of them or her being sent back to the states. In the end, it was concluded that since she was able to work with them, they must not have raped her. However, if she refused, would they not have considered her obstinate? On the flipside, how could they feel any comfort in having to be around her all day? If it was a false accusation, why didn’t the command bring charges against her?
Or 2007 when that poor LCpl, Maria Lauterbach was raped by her married NCO, Cesar Laurean, and then later murdered before she could give birth. I worked in French Creek at that time, and Lauterbach had to give classes on checking out of the Marine Corps with this piece of shit rapist-murderer because that’s what the wisdom of her command demanded of her. If she refused, she’d have surely been punished harshly. On the flip-side, no self-respecting person could reasonably be able to work side-by-side with someone who accused him of something so heinous.
If my kids join, I’ll know what I can do to fuck a command up if I need to, but I don’t want to have to exercise that power. I just want my kids to be safe and have a nice life, which is why I’m not encouraging them to join.
To clarify, I never met Lauterbach or Laurean. After the murder, a Cpl who was checking out was telling me about being in the class with them. He said he felt there was a weird dynamic, and now it made sense.
A force returned. Bravo, sir.
Thank you! Thank you!
Have you missed me? I can’t believe you replied this fast.
Of course. I have your site as a favorite on my tablet, so I’ll occasionally just tap it to see if you updated.
